Karnataka news live: 69.8% seroprevalence in state, says ICMR survey


Karnataka’s general population has a Covid-19 sero-positivity rate of 69.8 %, results of the 4th serosurvey conducted by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) show. Basavaraj Bommai was sworn in as the 23rd chief minister of Karnataka on Wednesday, bringing down the curtains on weeks of uncertainty over leadership in the state, and paving the way for BJP to buckle down ahead of the 2023 assembly elections. Of the 1,194 applications the Centre received from families of healthcare workers who died of Covid, seeking benefits under PM Gareeb Kalyan Yojana, the 2nd highest number — 129 — are from Karnataka. Pension for widows and financial assistance for disabled will be increased from Rs 600 to Rs 800 monthly at an additional cost of Rs 504 crore.
