Newcastle keeper search continues as Serie A outcast now on radar

Newcastle are keen to sign Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha in January after reports that a loan move for Manchester United star Dean Henderson is unlikely.
The Magpies are on the cusp of appointing Eddie Howe as their new manager to replace the sacked Steve Bruce. The former Bournemouth chief will have a tough task on his hands as the Tynesiders are yet to win this season. They sit 19th in the top-flight standings and are only above basement club Norwich City on goal difference.
January will be critical to the north-east side’s fortunes, with new players expected to arrive. And goalkeeper is a position that seems to be high on the agenda.
Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman have shared duties this term, with Martin Dubravka also on the books. But reports suggest they may all be sidelined in the new year.
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen was linked earlier this week. El Nacional stated the Magpies were willing to pay what was needed to lure the German to St James’ Park.

However it seems as though they have other targets in mind. Henderson continues to kick his heels in the United reserves. A report back in September claimed the 24-year-old was seeking a January exit to gain more playing time.
Capped once by England, the Whitehaven-bon shot-stopper showed his prowess during loan spells with Sheffield United. But David de Gea continue to shine for the Red Devils.
That has led to frustration for Henderson but the Sun suggested in September he will not move on loan.
Strakosha has been with Lazio throughout his professional career. The Greek-born Albania international has enjoyed 179 appearances in all competitions for the Rome-based outfit.
However, he is now below former Liverpool custodian Pepe Reina in the pecking order. Tottenham were linked with the 26-year-old in 2020 while West Ham entered the picture earlier this year.
However, the former Panionios youth star remained in the Eternal City. But Newcastle now have funds to make deals happen and it would be no surprise to see them swoop early next year.

The Sun are reporting thay they sent their top scout to watch Strakosha play in the Europa League last week. He will be out of contract next summer and so would not cost too much in January.
He would be able to begin negotiations with clubs in January over a summer switch. But the men in black and white may possibly move before then to land their target.
