Manchester United would sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last Sunday following an embarrassing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford.

Solskjaer leaves the Red Devils languishing in mid-table in the Premier League, with their place in the Champions League knockout rounds having also only been secured on the back of his departure.
For the time being, Manchester United have put Michael Carrick, Solskjaer’s previous assistant, in charge of the squad until an interim boss is named:
Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.
Now, though, despite Carrick guiding United to a 2-0 win over Villarreal and securing their spot in the Champions League knockout rounds in the process, the Red Devils appear to have wasted very little time in identifying an interim boss.
News broke on Thursday  that Manchester United had reached an agreement with Ralf Rangnick to become the club’s manager for the remainder of the season before then moving into a two-year consultancy role:

Ahead of his seemingly imminent move to Old Trafford, however, previous damning comments on the part of Rangnick have surfaced.
Said comments saw the former Hoffenheim coach offer a ruthless assessment of Luke Shaw, as follows:
“I also think that they could do with a left-back. I know they have Luke Shaw but I’m not so sure if he’s still on the same level that you need to be for a club like Manchester United.”
