TOKYO, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — Japan’s Chiba Prefecture will hold the country’s first X Games event next spring, which will attract some of the world’s best skateboard, BMX (Bicycle Motocross or bike motocross), and motocross athletes to the city located east of Tokyo, organizers said Thursday.
With over 25 years of history, the Extreme Games that soon became known as the X Games was a first-of-a-kind multisport event that brought niche sports like BMX cycling, in-line skating, skysurfing, and skateboarding into the spotlight.
The X Games Chiba 2022 will be held in ZOZO Marine Stadium over three days from April 22, 2022, with seven disciplines across three sports on the program.
“I’m so happy to hear it will be held in Japan. When my entry is confirmed I’m going to do my best to win a gold medal,” said Sakura Yosozumi, an X Games skateboard bronze medalist and Tokyo Olympic gold medalist.
The Extreme Games was used to be held every two years in Rhode Island before moving to larger venues and spawning a winter version.
