A Free State man has been stabbed to death during
an argument with a friend near Sasolburg.

A 30-year-old man was arrested for murder after the
incident. The two friends allegedly quarrelled while drinking on Saturday at
about 21:30.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine
Rani said:

[The two men] were sitting together having drinks. An argument ensued between them while still drinking, which led to the fighting. One of them took out a knife and stabbed the other. The paramedics were called to the scene.

The victim succumbed to the stab wounds and was
declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

The suspect was arrested and will be charged with
murder. He will appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Brigadier Mapulane Mabeloane, acting district
commissioner in the Fezile Dabi district, implored residents to desist from
committing such crimes.

“It is often heartbreaking having to deal with
a case that could have been easily prevented. It is not wise for our community
members to react when under the influence, as it makes one feel superior and
free to do as they please,” said Mabeloane.

“I humbly request our community members to
refrain from being reactive when under the influence, but rather go to a place
where one could easily gather their thoughts before finding themselves on the
wrong side of the law.”
