2022 AMA Supercross Anaheim 1 Race Preview

Fresh off of his second 450x title in three seasons, Cooper Webb of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing is ready for a title defense, starting with Anaheim 1. 2021 was a good year for the 26-year-old, with a fourth-place finish at 450 in Motocross to go with his Supercross victory.  Webb will be sporting a new bike from KTM when he hits the track for the first time in 2022 as well.

In the 250SX division, East Champion Colt Nichols is registered to compete on Saturday in a field that will be without West Champion Justin Cooper. Cooper and Nichols are teammates with Monster Energy / Star Yamaha Racing. For Cooper, it was a relief season to finally take the top spot after finishing in second at 250 in Supercross in 2020 and 2019 in the West and East respectively. The 24-year-old broke his foot earlier this week, putting a question mark on his entire season which is possibly his last at 250.

Webb and Nichols are surely favorites to at least reach the field of 22 finalists to compete in the main events at their divisions, and they’ll do it in front of a crowd. As the COVID pandemic continues to sweep the country and the state of California, fans will still have the opportunity to attend the live event. Socially distanced seating will be enforced, meaning limited attendance opportunities. Face coverings will be required for both the FanFest and the races.
