Iga Swiatek talks negative comments she receives on social media following losses

World No. 8 Iga Swiatek admitted that reading comments on social media after a loss is “not pleasant or motivating” but added she has never questioned herself after reading negative comments. Swiatek, the 2020 French Open, champion hosted a Q&A session on Instagram.

“I have stopped for sometime,” Swiatek said, per Sportskeeda. “Sometimes I see that I don’t fulfill the expectations of fans and reading their comments is not pleasant or motivating. I’m happy that I’ve never conditioned my confidence on what is written about me.

I know that a lot of people cheer me on and support me, and positive comments prevail. Thank you.” Swiatek, a former world No. 4, was asked what places she would like to visit. “Lago Di Garda, Niagara Falls, New Zealand (I was there but didn’t see anything), Africa (but I don’t really know where),” Swiatek listed.

Swiatek out of Sydney

Swiatek was scheduled to play in Sydney this week but she pulled out because she wanted to rest a bit before the Australian Open. “After intense preseason and last week’s tournament in Adelaide, I feel like my body needs more time to recover before the Australian Open.

I’ve been feeling some pain in my lower rib area which is why unfortunately I’ve decided to withdraw from tournament in Sydney,” Swiatek announced. “I really hope to play for you next year. See you in Melbourne!” Swiatek kicked off her season in Adelaide last week, where she made the semifinal before losing to Ashleigh Barty.

En route to making the semifinal, Swiatek beat Leylah Fernandez and Victoria Azarenka. “I’m pretty happy with my results here. My draw wasn’t easy. I played really solid versus Leylah and Vika,” Swiatek said after losing to Barty.

“Today was a good match. It was more even than the score says. I’m happy with my performance. Of course I’m not satisfied because I lost. I know what mistakes I’ve done.”
