Manchester United monitoring Barcelona centre-back

Reports coming out of Spain have credited Manchester United with an interest in Ronald Araujo.
Who is Ronald Araujo?
Ronald Araujo was signed by Barcelona in August of 2018, leaving Uruguayan outfit Boston River to link up with the club’s B team.
Araujo would go on to feature 44 times for Barca B, scoring six and assisting three in the process.
Since then, he has been promoted to the club’s senior set-up, and has now become a key cog in La Blaugrana’s backline.
All told, the centre-back has notched 61 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish side, 22 of which have come in the current campaign.
And with Gerard Pique past his best, and players like Samuel Umtiti suffering with persistent injury issues, Araujo has been one of the few bright sparks at the back for Barca of late.

Liverpool had previously been credited with an interest in the stopper.
Now though, it is another of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals, Manchester United, who are showing an interest, according to reports.
As per Goal citing Spanish outlet Sport, with Araujo having just 18 months left on his current contract, he is pushing for a new lucrative deal.
However, Barcelona are not in a strong enough financial position to meet Araujo’s demands.
As a result, Manchester United have made initial contact with the defender’s representatives to gauge his availability.
No potential fee is mentioned, but if Manchester United were to complete this deal in the summer, it is hard to imagine Barcelona being able to charge too much given Araujo’s contract status.
Would Araujo earn regular game time over both Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane?
