SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Former Sacramento State women’s golfer Nishtha Madan will compete in the Gainbridge LPGA tournament at Boca Rio Golf Club in Boca Raton, Fla., beginning on Thursday, Jan. 27. Madan was one of two golfers to earn a sponsor exemption to the event and is the first Hornet to compete in an LPGA Tour event.

Since completing her collegiate career at Sacramento State in 2020, Madan has earned five professional victories, including four on the Cactus Tour. She will play the 2022 season on the Symetra Tour which is the official qualifying tour of the LPGA Tour.

Madan currently ranks second in Hornet history with a career stroke average of 74.53. She is also seventh in career top five finishes (4), tied for eighth in career top 10 finishes (7), and tied for fourth in top 20 finishes (17). Madan had 22 rounds during her career even or under par and led the team in 11 tournaments. She was a four-time all-Big Sky conference selection, including earning first team honors in 2018 and 2020.

Madan will be paired with Hyejin Choi and Sphia Schubert in the first round on Thursday. The threesome will tee off the first tee at 5:38 a.m. PT. On Friday, the group will be sent off from the 10th tee at 10:02 a.m. PT. The Gainbridge LPGA tournament will have coverage on Golf Channel from 8:30-11:30 a.m. PT on Thursday and Friday.
