Maroon Swimming & Diving Defeats Illinois-Chicago


CHICAGO – The University of Chicago swimming & diving teams raced past local opponent University of Illinois-Chicago in Friday night’s dual meet at the Myers-McLoraine Pool.

In the final team scores, the Maroon men outscored UIC 204 to 91 and the UChicago women were victorious 184.5 to 115.5. The Maroons won a collective 23 events on the night.

On the men’s side, the host Maroons tallied 13 event victories. Sophomore Jesse Ssengonzi and Garrett Clasen were the leaders with two individual wins apiece. Ssengonzi placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (49.18) and 200-yard butterfly (1:52.09). His time in the 100 butterfly was an NCAA B-cut time. Clasen claimed the 100-yard breaststroke (57.22) and 200-yard IM (1:51.58). Ssengonzi and Clasen were a part of the winning 400-yard medley relay team, and Ssengonzi swam on the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay as well. Junior Arthur Kiselnikov swam anchor leg on both relays and added a win in the 100-yard freestyle (45.61). His 200-yard freestyle time of 1:39.53 was an NCAA B-cut.

In the diving events, sophomore Skylar Migon and junior Logan Sherwin recorded NCAA qualifying marks. Migon took first on the one-meter board with 326.25 points, while Sherwin scored 296.48 points on the three-meter board.

For the women, junior Filippa Kolokotsa and first-year Elisabella Forest came away with the most individual wins with two each. Kolokosta placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (24:42) and 100-yard freestyle (52.60). Meanwhile, Forest took home the 100-yard backstroke (58.24) and 200-yard backstroke (2:07.57). Kolokotsa also swam a leg on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay.

Senior diver Elizabeth Cron posted NCAA qualifying scores in both the one-meter (269.48) and three-meter (266.48) dives. First-year diver Cynthia Tang qualified on the one-meter with a score of 262.58.
