YOTOVA AND ALTER EARN ALL-BIG SKY HONORS TO CAP HORNETS’ 2022 WOMEN’S TENNIS SEASON

SACRAMENTO — After helping the Hornets advance to the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference championships back in April, the Sacramento State sophomore tandem of Tsveti Yotova and Paige Alter were named to the league’s postseason honor roll as voted on by the head coaches and released by the conference office on Monday.

Both picked up the first all-conference honors of their respective Hornet careers as Yotova was named to the All-Big Sky second team in both singles and doubles, while Alter joined Yotova as a tandem on the all-league second team for doubles this year — the first by a Sacramento State doubles pair since the conference began handing out all-league honors in singles and doubles players separately in 2017.

Yotova, a native of Sofia, Bulgaria, shared the team lead with eight wins in singles play, finishing 8-12 overall at the top three spots in the lineup combined, including a 4-5 mark as the Hornets’ No. 1 player this year. She finished 5-3 against Big Sky Conference opponents, including winning four of her last six individual matches.

Meanwhile, the duo of Yotova and Alter finished 9-10 overall together in doubles, including a 6-2 mark against league opponents, posting four wins at the top spot in the lineup while finishing a perfect 5-0 at the No. 2 position. The nine wins were tied for the most on the team along with the pairing of Maddy Ferreros and Alexis Johnson (9-8), as Yotova and Alter rebounded from a 2-7 start to the season to finish 7-3 over their last 10, including a run of five consecutive victories from March 18-April 2.
