Novak Djokovic throws a ski challenge at Roger Federer

Many tennis players are passionate about skiing, including Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Two legends fell in love with skiing when they were kids, but they did not have a chance to enjoy it more seriously in the previous 15 years.

Roger’s “skiing ban” is now off, with the legend retiring at the last year’s Laver Cup. Novak is still not ready to join him on the slopes, but he threw a challenge at Roger in a couple of years! Djokovic mentioned Federer following his Australian Open quarter-final victory, praising a great rival and his post-tennis life.

Federer enjoyed a ski ride a couple of days ago while Djokovic chases his tenth Australian Open crown. It’s so far so good for the Serb, feeling no pain in his left leg in the previous two encounters and safely moving into the last four.

Novak faced Andrey Rublev in the quarter-final and beat him 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 in two hours and three minutes. Djokovic served well and kept the pressure on the other side after firing 32 winners and 21 unforced errors. The Serb made the crucial difference in the shortest range up to four strokes and defended all five break points to keep his serve intact.

Djokovic broke Rublev five times to sail over the finish line and set the clash against Tommy Paul.

Rublev saved a break point in the encounter’s second game to avoid an early setback and opened a 40-15 lead in the fourth.

Djokovic climbed back and grabbed a break after the rival’s double fault to move in front. Novak fired an ace in game five and delivered another break after forcing Andrey’s mistake that pushed him further in front. Djokovic served for the opener in game seven and saved two break points.

He wrapped up the set with a backhand winner for 6-1 and a massive boost. The Russian stayed in touch until 2-2 in the second set, already doing more than in the opener. Djokovic forced Rublev’s mistake in the fifth game to secure a break and survived two break points in the next one.

Novak delivered another break at 4-2 following a double fault from his powerless opponent and struggled a bit on serve a few minutes later. The Serb failed to convert four set points and faced a break point. He erased it and landed a service winner on his fifth set point to open a 6-1, 6-2 gap in an hour and 23 minutes and move closer to the finish line.

Rublev experienced another setback at the start of the third set and got broken after a loose volley. Novak held in game two with a service winner and created another break chance at 2-0. Andrey saved it and brought the game home to avoid complete disaster.

Djokovic claimed the fourth game with an ace and held in game six after a lucky net cord winner for 4-2. Novak opened a 5-3 gap and forced Andrey to serve to stay in the match. Rublev held to reduce the deficit and keep himself in contention before Djokovic sealed the deal with a hold at love at 5-4.
