U.S. dollar slips as traders await central bank meetings
NEW YORK, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Wednesday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.27 percent to 101.6440.
In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.0914 U.S. dollars from 1.0884 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.2398 U.S. dollars from 1.2338 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 129.56 Japanese yen, lower than 130.02 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.9178 Swiss francs from 0.9230 Swiss francs, and it increased to 1.3381 Canadian dollars from 1.3362 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 10.2168 Swedish Kronor from 10.2009 Swedish Kronor.
Market participants awaited key central bank meetings as both the U.S. Federal Reserve and the European Central bank are set to hold policy meetings next week.
