Royal Challengers Bangalore Will Retire Jersey Numbers 17 And 333 In Honour Of Iconic Stars; AB De Villiers And Chris Gayle


Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will retire the jersey numbers of their former players AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. The duo had been superstars of the lucrative Indian Premier League. The franchise is going to honour Chris Gayle and Ab de Villiers by inducting both into the RCB’s “Hall of Fame”.

AB de Villiers, who played 11 seasons for RCB has scored 4,491 runs in 156 matches for the franchise–and has been a pillar of support for Virat Kohli at the RCB camp.

The South African cricketer slammed 37 half-centuries and two centuries for RCB. T20 batting legend Chris Gayle played for seven seasons–and produced some scintillating performances for RCB in the Chinnaswamy stadium. Chris Gayle’s best score is an unbeaten 175.

RCB will retire jersey numbers 17 and 333 as a tribute to Hall of Fame stars AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle for their remarkable contribution.

“Jersey numbers 17 and 333 will be retired forever as a tribute to @ABdeVilliers17 and @henrygayle, when we induct the legends of RCB into the Hall of Fame, at the #RCBUnbox presented by Walkers and Co,” RCB tweeted.

Ab de Villiers played for RCB from 2011 to 2018 and became one of the most celebrated players in the league. With his incredible batting skills and ability to change the game in a matter of overs, de Villiers quickly became a fan favourite in India, similarly, the hard-hitting batter Gayle played some entertaining knocks for the Bangalore-based franchise.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Will Start Practicing On March 26 At Chinnaswamy Stadium

RCB will host the’ unbox’ event on March 26, Sunday, at the Chinnaswamy stadium where Sonu Nigam and Jason Derulo will perform at the event. The Bangalore-based franchise also planned a full team practice session on Sunday after the event with the likes of Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Dinesh Karthik participating in the event.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be looking to end their long wait for their maiden IPL trophy in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). RCB has been performing consistently over the last 3 years–and they will look to win the 1st title in IPL 2023 under the leadership of Faf du Plessis.

Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the only three sides who are playing in the league since the inaugural season and are yet to win it. RCB will play in front of the full-packed Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore after three long years.
