Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu walked free on Saturday after spending nearly 10 months in Patiala central jail in a 1988 road rage death case. He was wearing a sky blue jacket when he came out of jail. There were expectations that he would be released by afternoon but he came out of jail at 5:53 pm.

As soon as he walked out of the jail, the Congress leader said the BJP is stoking violence in Punjab.

Speaking to media, Sidhu said,”There is no such thing as democracy right now. Conspiracy to bring President’s Rule in Punjab. Minorities being targeted. If you try to weaken Punjab, you will become weak.”
”When a lion roars, it echoes in America and Germany. Whenever a dictatorship came to this country a revolution has also come and this time, the name of that revolution is Rahul Gandhi. He will rattle the government,” Sidhu said.
”Institutions are now slaves. I am not scared. I’m not afraid of death. What I’m doing is for coming generations in Punjab,” Navjot Sidhu after walking out of Patiala jail.

“History is witness that no one has been in jail even for a week for IPC 323. But why did Sidhu then go to jail? Because my predecessors wrote the Constitution and I respect that,” Sidhu said.
The 59-year-old’s supporters had assembled since morning outside the prison to accord him a grand welcome upon his release and they could be heard chanting ‘Navjot Sidhu zindabad’.
The former state Congress chief was jailed on May 20 last year after being sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court over the death of the 65-year-old Gurnam Singh in a road rage case in 1988.
