Young Indian batter Shubman Gill said that it was a dream come true moment for him to play an international match at his home stadium. The Indian opener scored a counter-attacking half-century in the opening ODI of the three-match series, where India defeated Australia by five wickets in a comfortable fashion.

Shubman Gill maintained his strong performance in 2023 by surpassing the 1100 run mark in ODIs for the year. In the Asia Cup 2023, Gill’s performance was outstanding where he proved his batting prowess by leading the Asia Cup batting charts with a total of 302 runs, including a hundred.

Speaking to Jiocinema, Shubman Gill said that he first visited Mohali when he was 7 years old and that playing an international game in his home stadium was a dream come true for him and added he was also pleased to see his family cheering him on from the stands.

“I was 7 years old when we came to Mohali for the first time. Since I had seen so many matches here as a spectator, it was a dream for me to play an international match in Mohali. I’d played a couple of IPL matches but to play an international match with my family watching was special.” 

Shubman Gill has been exceptional for the Men in Blue in his short cricketing career proving to be a vital cog across formats. The youngster would look to find his form going into the important ODI World Cup in India.

Shubman Gill feels that Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan have performed very well in the provided opportunities in the opening game against Australia and said that everyone can expect him to perform according to the situation in the World Cup.

“Both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan have grabbed their opportunities. They are all very eager to perform and are showing it when they get a chance.”

“I feel my strength is to know when to attack and when to defend. You can expect me to play according to the situation at the World Cup. I will try to adapt to the opponents and conditions and give myself the best possible chance to do well,” Shubman Gill added.

Shubman Gill is expected to open the innings alongside the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the ODI World Cup in India. In the 50-over format this year, the opening duo has been successful in the top of the order for India, giving the team strong starts at the start of the innings.
