Women’s basketball swept away by Mary Washington



FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A strong first quarter could not set the tone well enough for the Hood College women’s basketball team, as they fell to the University of Mary Washington 61-36.

Chanelle Lee (Brunswick, Md./Saint John’s Catholic Prep) led the Blazers with 12 points seven rebounds, and six steals.

How it Happened

Hood started the game off well, outscoring Mary Washington 11-4, holding the Eagles to just one made shot while Lee racked up seven points.

The Eagles turned it around in the second quarter, scoring 21 points in those 10 minutes while only allowing Hood to get 10, but the Blazers were still in it at the half trailing just 25-21.

Unfortunately, Mary Washington kept the pressure dialed in, scoring 20 points once more while holding Hood to single digits to make it a large 45-28 gap heading into the fourth.

The final frame was similar to the previous one, as the Eagles again outscored the Blazers 16-8, never giving up any easy baskets as the final buzzer sounded on Hood’s penultimate regular season game with a 61-36 final score.

For the Opponent

Grace Hare finished with team-leading 17 points.

Jordan Carpenter ended the evening with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Analysis

Mary Washington shot 40 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range, while Hood shot just 27 percent from the field and 23 percent from three-point range.

The Eagles outrebounded the Blazers 45-27.

Hood committed a total of 23 turnovers, while Mary Washington held their turnovers to just 17.
