City Power has instructed Rand Water to start its pumps after the Eikenhof pump station tripped due to a suspected lightning strike at the Orlando substation in Soweto, the entity said on Tuesday.

The power utility spokesperson Isaac Mangena said power was restored to Orlando two hours after the trip.

“When we lose Fordsburg and Orlando, we lose most of the suburbs in the south, including Eikenhof,” he said.
