A multiple award-winning Eastern Cape police officer is a free man after he was acquitted of a string of charges, including torture, in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Warrant Officer Severiano Blundin, a decorated member of the Gqeberha SAPS Flying Squad, was accused of kidnapping, torturing and assaulting three men in March 2019.
But after a trial that dragged on for two years, Blundin – once named the top-performing SAPS member in the Eastern Cape and for two consecutive years won the police’s national award for his dedication to fighting crime – triumphantly did his walk of freedom following the judgment.
