Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins opened up about the win his team registered over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2024.  He lauded young batter Nitish Reddy for his performance with the bat and ball and credited him for the win.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have found their mojo in the IPL 2024 as they defeated Punjab Kings by 2 runs to win their third game of the tournament. One of the main highlights of the game for them was the way they made a comeback with bat after being down.

SRH were left at 100/5 and it seemed that they would get all out early but Nitish Reddy with the bat turned the game on his head. The all-rounder played a magnificent innings with the bat and made sure that he took his team to the fighting total on the board.

Nitish Reddy played an innings of 64 runs and his valiant effort with the bat took Sunrisers Hyderabad to a total of 182 runs, which at one moment didn’t seem possible, especially with the kind of start they had at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.

With the ball, SRH took control of the game right from the start as they picked wickets at regular intervals and put Punjab under pressure. Although Shashank Singh (46*) and Ashutosh Sharma (33*) gave them a real scare in the end they held their nerves and won the game by 2 runs.

Pat Cummins lauded his team for their efforts with bat and ball and said that they wanted to be aggressive while defending the target. He also talked about the reason behind him taking the new ball. Speaking after the game, he explained:

“Was a great game of cricket, they bowled well at the start, we did well to get to 180, did pretty well to defend but got pretty close. The beauty of the Impact Player is you feel like you’ve got deep batting. Always tried to be really positive to take the game on. It was really tough early on, they bowled exceptionally with the new ball.

“You got to be aggressive. With 150 or 160, you are probably going to lose nine out of ten games anyway. We knew that the new ball was going to be key. We were pretty happy to get to 180. Maybe conditions (on him taking the new ball), didn’t think I was going to do that coming into the game. We saw what happened with the new ball for them.”

He was awesome, fantastic – Pat Cummins on Nitish Reddy

Pat Cummins further talked about the variety they have in their fast bowling department. The SRH skipper also heaped rich praise on Nitish Reddy, saying that his effort to take the team to 180 was unreal. He explained:

“Bhuvi and I started off, tried to take a couple of wickets. Beauty is we’ve got plenty of left-armers, and right-armers, so you just try and give them the best chance of success.

“(On Nitish) He was awesome, fantastic, debuted last week. Straight up to the top of the order this week. He was fantastic on the field and bowled three overs. To get us to 180 basically off his own bat was unreal.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be next seen in action when they take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday (15th April).
