Vanderbilt University sweeps LSU 4-0!

The Vanderbilt University men’s tennis team swept No. 1 LSU 4-0. 39 Friday at the Ensworth Tennis Facility. Now Commodores will face Georgia, Sunday at 1 p.m. on Seniors’ Day.

Vanderbilt coach Scott Brown said after the win: “First of all, I hope LSU’s George Stoupe makes a full recovery and is able to compete in the postseason. It’s really unfortunate what happened to him and we never like to win a game like that. As for our guys, I’m very happy with how they competed today and how they did their job.

This was a complete team win from top to bottom and I would like to recognize Michael Ross for the way competed and performed today to win the game. Thank you to all our fans who came out to support us. Now we are completely focused on Georgia as we close out our regular season. Fight Dores!”

Stefan Latinovic and George Stoupe defeated Joubert Klopper and Michael Ross, taking the match 6-3. The Dores took first place in doubles, initially falling on Court 1 but finishing the job on Courts 2 and 3.

Danil Panarin and Hugo Coquelin outlasted their LSU opponents on Court 3, and Nathan Cox and Jeremie Casabon captured doubles on Court 2, beating Chen Dong and Julien Penzlin 7-5.

Panarin, ranked 60th, defeated Latinovic on court 1 6-2, 6-3, making the score 3-0 in favor of Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt didn’t stop there and achieved back-to-back singles victories. Cox added a point for Vanderbilt when Stoupe withdrew due to a dislocated shoulder. Ross clinched the match for the Dores by outlasting Rudy Ceccon in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 on Court 5, securing the victory for Vandy.
