IPL is a funny tournament

Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) locked horns with KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 28th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) on Sunday, April 14 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. They received a massive boost in the match as Harshit Rana made his return to the playing XI. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) also made significant changes by dropping Naveen-ul-Haq and Devdutt Padikkal while Shamar Joseph, Deepak Hooda, and Mohsin Khan made it to the playing XI.

Batting first, the Lucknow Super Giants lost their first wicket in the second over itself as Quinton de Kock was dismissed by Vaibhav Arora. Deepak Hooda followed De Kock to the dugout very soon as he was cleaned by Mitchell Starc in the 5th over, thanks to Ramandeep Singh’s blinder.

KL Rahul (39) and Ayush Badoni (29), meanwhile, got off to brilliant starts but they weren’t able to register big scores. In the end, Nicholas Pooran played an excellent 45-run knock and helped the Super Giants post 161/7 on the board.

Chasing the target, Sunil Narine wasn’t able to continue his batting brilliance at the top of the order as he was dismissed for 6. Soon Angkrish Raghuvanshi was dismissed for 7 and KKR were reduced to 42/2.

However, Phil Salt joined forces with his skipper Shreyas Iyer and steered KKR to a stunning 8-wicket victory. Salt played an impactful innings of 89 runs off 47 balls while Iyer chipped in with a run-a-ball 38.

At the post-match presentation ceremony, Shreyas Iyer said they were overall perfect with their performance in the match and registered a comprehensive win. Shreyas Iyer stated:

“Pretty much comprehensive victory. Fielded well and bowled well. Was important to bowl slower ones as much as possible because of the heat and the wicket becoming dry. We executed phenomenally well.”

Shreyas Iyer heaped massive praise on his bowlers for being exceptional on the field. He also said that the Indian Premier League is a funny tournament where anything can happen so they need to stay in present. Shreyas Iyer elaborated:

“When we got wickets, it gave us the advantage to come in and put in an attacking effort. Character and attitude bowlers showed was exceptional. Will keep reiterating that it’s a funny tournament and have to stay in the present as much as possible. Have to seize the moment and not leave it on someone else.”

Kolkata Knight Riders’ Journey In Indian Premier League 2024 Before The Lucknow Super Giants Clash

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) started off their campaign in the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) on a high by beating the Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 4 runs on March 23. They played a great brand of cricket and gave proper entertainment to the crowd, riding on Andre Russell’s all-round masterclass.

The Gautam Gambhir-mentored side next faced Faf du Plessis’ Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a high-voltage clash. Sunil Narine made a great contribution in the match as the Knight Riders comprehensively crushed their rivals by 7 wickets with 19 balls remaining.

On April 03, they went head-to-head with the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) and the batting unit of the team annihilated the opposition team. A historic total of 272/7 was posted by the Knight Riders and they hammered DC by 106 runs to register a hat-trick of wins in the Indian Premier League 2024.

The Shreyas Iyer & Co. faced their first loss of the season on April 8 when they locked horns with the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 22nd match of the Indian Premier League 2024. The high-flying batting unit of the team severely under-delivered, which resulted in them scoring a below-par total.
