Darwin Blanch mocks Rafael Nadal with a funny social post

After learning of the Mutua Madrid Open draw that paired him with Rafael Nadal in the first round, the young American player Darwin Blanch published an Instagram post with a decidedly funny emoticon and the amusing phrase: “Guys I play Nadal wtf!”

Nadal and Blanch will also play the match with the largest age gap since the Masters 1000 has existed. Nadal and Blanch will be on court on the afternoon of Thursday 25 April (local time) for the first round match of the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid.

And it will be a historic match in its own way. In fact, it will be the match in which there will be the greatest age difference between the two players on the court since the ATP Masters 1000 existed, since 1990. Rafael Nadal is 21 years and 117 days older than Darwin Blanch.

Rafael Nadal vs Darwin Blanch: a match which writes history

Until Thursday, the record was held by the duel between Jimmy Connors and Pete Sampras, separated by 18 years and 344 days when they met in Key Biscayne-Miami in 1992.

The draw for the first round of the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid had among the main reasons of interest that of knowing Rafael Nadal’s first round opponent.

If in Barcelona a few days ago it was Flavio Cobolli’s turn to play and be defeated by the 22-time Spanish Slam champion, this time in the first round the Spanish champion will play an absolutely unprecedented match against the 16-year-old American player Darwin Blanch in the draw with a wild card.

Blanch will play only his second match at ATP level after being defeated in the first round by the Czech Machac in the recent Masters 1000 tournament in Miami. Darwin Blanch, born in 2007, is number 1,028 in the world but is considered a very promising player and for this reason he was granted a wild card by the organizers.
