The global contagion that is the coronavirus [Covid-19] has hit the Northamptonshire camp after one of their players- who was not in the squad- was tested positive for the pandemic.

As a result, the Bob Willis Trophy fixture between Northamptonshire and Gloucestershire has been abandoned as a precaution. Even though the player who tested positive for Covid-19 was not in the squad, a few players from the group came in contact with him within 48 hours of him developing the symptoms.

Northamptonshire had got off to a brilliant start to the Bob Willis fixture as they had Gloucestershire down in the dumps reeling at 6-66.

According to a statement released by the Northamptonshire County club, the news of the player testing positive for Covid just before the Lunch break on the opening day. The statement added that the ECB and both NCC and Gloucestershire are unified in the belief that player’s safety is paramount and they intend to take no undue risk.

The abandonment of the fixture will, however, have no bearing on the finals’ scenario of the tournament as both sides have already been knocked out and the said fixture was their last game of the season anyway.
