Women’s basketball scratched by Eagles
ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Hood College women’s basketball team falls in road contest against Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent Eastern University 57-44.

Chanelle Lee (Brunswick, Md./Saint John’s Catholic Prep) had the most points for Hood with 16 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
Tiffany Manning (Randallstown, Md./Western Tech) had 10 points, five rebounds, four steals and one assist on the day.
Na’Vaye Quarles (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) picked up eight points and two assist.
How it Happened
The Blazers conducted a promising start to begin the match against Eastern. Just five minutes in Hood had knocked down two three pointers to give them a scoring edge of 6-4 curtesy of Lee and Nikki Etchison (Ijamsville, MD/Oakdale). With two minutes left in the first Lee made another three pointer to bring the Blazers five points above the Eagles. Lastly, Quarles made a two point jump shot in the last minute of the quarter to give Hood a seven point scoring cushion over the Eagles going 11-4 heading into the second quarter.
The second quarter was more contrary than the first as the Eagles of Eastern University managed to cut the Blazers lead to just one going into the second half. Amidst, scoring by Manning and Quarles both teams went into the third quarter with a score of 16-15 in favor of Hood.
The third quarter showcased great scoring attempts as this quarter proved to be the most amount of points awarded for both teams.in this match up. Both Hood and Eastern traded baskets with notable scores by Lee, Quarles, Amari Faust (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock), Demiah Austin (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie), and Libby Kiley (Taneytown, Md./Springdale Prep). Heading into the fourth, Eastern managed to gain a seven point lead over the Blazers as the scoreboard read 38-31 in favor of the Eagles.
In the final quarter of play the Blazers and Eagles showed tremendous efforts to come out victorious. Both teams would go on their own scoring runs respectively. In the final minute of the game following an made three pointer by Eastern, Manning picked up four points after knocking down two free throws and a jump shot, lamentably her efforts would not allow for a Hood comeback as the score was 57-44 at the final buzzer.
For the Opponent
Taryn Woodson led the Eagles with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and two assists.
Jeriyah Johnson followed closely behind with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Analysis
Eastern shot 32.8 percent from the field, compared to 28.6 percent from Hood.
Both teams tied for points off the bench at 15.
Notes
When asked about the outcome of the game, Head Coach DéRonté Polite said, “We had moments where we move the ball really well but we didn’t capitalize on those opportunities enough. We just haven’t been able to put together four good quarters. With have three more opportunities to make that happen this year. I’m hoping we can figure it out.”
The Blazers drop to 3-19 overall, 2-10 in conference, and the Eagles improve to 9-13 overall, 5-7 in conference.
The Blazers return home to play MAC Commonwealth opponent Alvernia University Tuesday, February 13 at 7 p.m.
