Andy Roddick reveals he hates anxiety around an American Slam finalist
Finally: after 21 years an American tennis player has reached the final of a Slam: Taylor Fritz will play the final of the US Open – in front of the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium – against Jannik Sinner.
Andy Roddick is the last US tennis player to have managed to win a Grand Slam tournament in the men’s singles: it was 2003 – 21 years ago – when Andy conquered the US Open by beating Juan Carlos Ferrero, current coach of Carlitos Alcaraz, in the final.
Of course with two Americans in the semifinals, Frances Tiafoe and Taylor, who faced each other a few hours ago in the semifinals, there will be an American tennis player in the 2024 US Open final.
Andy, in one of the latest episodes of the Served with Andy Roddick podcast, talked about this situation and said that the thing he hopes for most is that one of the two American tennis players can lift the US Open trophy on Sunday. What is certain is that on Sunday there will be one of Fritz to challenge Jannik Sinner for the title. And Roddick has clearly expressed his thoughts and really hopes that this sort of curse ends on Sunday.
“I would love nothing more than for an American to win the US Open on Sunday. I hate this feeling of anxiety that comes with every time one of the American tennis players gets close to the goal. The questions that are constantly asked of them about this aspect. I hate it for them. I want them to do it, I want them to win. And frankly, if one of them breaks this curse, all of them could start fighting regularly to lift these types of trophies,” said the American tennis legend.
Two Americans in the U.S. Open semifinals and Andy is ready to pass the torch 🙌🇺🇸
