Arsenal’s best players – August 2024
Having taken seven points from a possible nine during the first month of the 2024/25 Premier League season, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will no doubt be pretty happy with their work in August.
The Gunners secured wins over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa before dropping two points against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium prior to the September international break.
Ahead of club football’s return next week, we thought it’d be a good time to dig through our player ratings from each Arsenal match in August and pick out the club’s five best performing stars so far:
Average rating: 6.6
Best performance: vs. Aston Villa
Although he hasn’t managed to bag a goal contribution thus far, Martin Odegaard has still been the beating heart of the Gunners’ final third play.
The club captain was particularly impressive in the statement 2-0 win over Aston Villa in gameweek two. His movement and clever use of the ball proved to be the difference between the two sides on the day.
Average rating: 6.6
Best performance: vs. Aston Villa
David Raya made one of the greatest saves in Premier League history in August.
The Spanish goalkeeper made the stop in the win over Aston Villa at Villa Park, showing off genuinely outrageous reaction time to lift himself off of the ground, after an Amadou Onana deflected effort hit the crossbar, to dive to his left and deny Ollie Watkins what looked like a certain goal.
It’s easy to see why Mikel Arteta made Raya the club’s number one.
Average rating: 7
Best performance: vs. Wolves
After a dynamite final few months of the 2023/24 season, Arsenal opted against dipping into the striker market during the summer transfer window, trusting Kai Havertz with the starting role.
And, so far, that looks to have been a bloody brilliant decision.
The German has been in fantastic form, bagging two goals and an assist in three games. Nice one.
Average rating: 7.6
Best performance: vs. Aston Villa
As he has been ever since his return from a loan spell with Marseille, William Saliba was in fantastic form throughout August.
The towering defender hasn’t put a foot wrong in 2024/25 so far, winning 21 duels, completing 94% of his passes and generally just being as reliable as ever.
Average rating: 7.6
Best performance: vs. Wolves
Bukayo Saka was quite a few people’s picks for 2024/25 Premier League player of the season, and it’s been so far so good for that prediction.
Arsenal’s ‘Starboy’ has been as deadly as ever in the final third, bagging a thoroughly impressive four goal contributions in just three appearances.
