VVS Laxman Extends Tenure as Head of National Cricket Academy
VVS Laxman, the former Indian cricketer, will extend his role as head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru by at least one more year, following the conclusion of his initial three-year contract this September. Laxman, who was reportedly being considered for a head coach position by an IPL franchise, has chosen to continue his duties at the NCA instead.
Laxman’s extended tenure coincides with the upcoming inauguration of a new state-of-the-art NCA campus on the outskirts of Bengaluru, which is expected to be operational by early next year. The new facility, whose foundation was laid in January 2022, boasts extensive amenities, including over 100 pitches, indoor facilities with 45 pitches, three international-sized grounds, a modern rehabilitation center, and Olympic-sized pools.
Throughout his first term at the NCA, Laxman has focused on enhancing injury management, player rehabilitation, coaching programs, and development plans for various Indian cricket teams, including senior, age-group, and women’s teams. One of his upcoming challenges will be to continue expanding the India A tour program, despite the complications caused by a packed international calendar.
