Maresca admits to selection headache as Chelsea continue to improve

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca admits his players are giving him a headache selection after a recent run of good form.

The head coach admitted that the performances on the pitch are giving him more to consider when it comes to picking the starting XI.

One of the key decisions Maresca continues to face is choosing between Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku for his attack, with the former bagging a brace against West Ham last week.

However, he pointed out that other players, such as Pedro Neto and Mykhailo Mudryk, have also impressed.

Speaking to the media, he said: “After the last game, I think it’s a good thing for me to have some doubt—that means they are doing well.

“They get the chance when we give it to them. This is something important, and as I said, we need to continue to do it because I think we create the right culture in terms of team, competing, and this is important.

“Yeah, it’s one of them, but I think Pedro (Neto) did very well. Mykhailo (Mudryk) did very well the other day.

“All of them, to be honest. It’s important that when there is a chance, even if it’s 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or half an hour or from the start, they give everything so it’s important.”

Manager of the Month?

Chelsea sit fifth in the table, just three points off top spot.

Their recent run has led to speculation that Maresca could win the Premier League Manager of the Month award.

However, the Argentine downplayed any personal accolades, insisting that his main focus remains on securing victories for the club.

He added: “The focus is just on the game. I think it’s the most important thing if we are able to win.

“It’s also important to continue with that momentum. This is the only thing that I really care [about].

“I will be happy to finally share three points with the fans at home. This is the most important thing.”
