Paris Masters Draw 2024 – Perfect Tennis

The final Masters 1000 of the season is here, and coincidentally, it’s the final time that the Paris Masters will be played in Bercy. From 2025, the event will take place 25km to the northwest at the Paris La Défense Arena.

The draw occurred Friday at 7.30 pm local time, and Novak Djokovic is not in the mix. The Serb is not attempting to defend his title or improve his chances for the ATP finals in Turin, instead opting to skip the event to manage his schedule after knee surgery earlier this season. He already has seven Paris Masters titles in the bag, so no big deal 😁

As a result, it’s left to Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev to headline the action, and you can see the full draw below.

The top 8 seeds receive a bye, and with Paris not part of the 96-player draw Masters 1000 club, it’s a much smoother-running tournament with fewer pointless matches, less dead time, and full completion in one week. Allez!

Thoughts on the Draw

Top Half: Sinner and Zverev Headline

Seeded players: Jannik Sinner (1), Alexander Zverev (3), Taylor Fritz (5), Andrey Rublev, Alex de Minaur (9), Stefanos Tsitsipas (10), Holger Rune (13), Lorenzo Musetti (16)

Jannik Sinner lands at the top of the draw, and after a bye, he’ll have to hit the ground running with a match against Ben Shelton or Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Shelton is the favourite, as Aliassime has had a poor year. Even though he can be dangerous indoors, his early loss in Basel doesn’t bode well against the American in the semi-finals at the Swiss Indoors tomorrow.

Sinneer has only ever played three matches in Bercy, with just one match win. However, based on his season so far, it’s hard to look past him making the latter stages, and he heads in with a cool $6 million in his bank account after winning the Six Kings Slam.

Also in Sinner’s quarter are Alex de Minaur, Holger Rune and Taylor Fritz. Rune is the 2022 runner-up, while the conditions suit de Minaur’s speed and baseline game. However, the Aussie is still playing in Vienna and does have some question marks about his fitness after a spell on the sidelines.

Fritz is coming in off a stellar year, but he’s never reached the final at an Indoor Tournament (aside from playing well at the Laver Cup) and has only been past round 2 in Paris once in five attempts.

In the bottom section of the top half, Zverev slots in as the third seed and heads in off the back of an early loss to Lorenzo Musetti in Vienna.

Rublev and Tstisipas are also in this section. The latter needs to win the title in Paris (and have results go his way) to make the ATP Finals, something he’s managed every year since 2019.

Predicted semi-final: Jannik Sinner (1) vs Alexander Zverev (3)

Bottom Half: Hard to look past Alcaraz

Seeded players: Carlos Alcaraz (2), Daniil Medvedev (4), Casper Ruud (7), Grigor Dimitrov (8), Tommy Paul (11), Hubert Hurkacz (12), Frances Tiafoe (14), Ugo Humbert (15)

In the bottom half, Carlos Alcaraz is the second seed, and his section looks very manageable, with either Nicolas Jarry or a qualified player in the second round.

Ruud, Paul, and Humbert are the other seeds in this quarter, and the Norwegians and Americans still have a chance to make Turin.

Paul boosted his chances of winning the title in Stockholm but crashed out in his opening match to Nakashima in Vienna. Ruud lost in the first round in Basel, so his chances of being leapfrogged by De Minaur and Dimitrov are likely, barring a strong showing in Paris.

The top seed in the top section of the bottom half is Daniil Medvedev, who has already qualified for Turin.

The Russian has been dealing with a shoulder problem, and although he played the Six Kings Slam to get his paycheque, he hasn’t looked in great form recently, so I am unsure what to expect.

Dimitrov, Hurkacz and Tiafoe are the other seeds in this section, along with former champion Karen Khachanov.

I’d fancy Dimitrov to do something here, but his legs looked to be gone in Vienna, so I think Medvedev will make the semi-finals, given he hasn’t played either of the ATP 500s this week.

Predicted semi-final: Carlos Alcaraz (2) vs Daniil Medvedev (4)
