How it Happened
The Seahawks started the game with a pair of 3-pointers in front of the Blazers’ bench. Kiley responded with a jump shot of her own from the top of the key, giving Lee the assist. Kourtney Johnson (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch High School) made her presence felt early in the second quarter when she was able to score consecutive baskets to tie the game 21-21. Kiley’s defense led to her offense as she turned one of her four steals into two points on the other end. The rest of the half looked to be in the Seahawks’ control. Hood added a pair of free throws, but St. Mary’s went on a scoring run to close the half 36-25.
Lee and Taylor took turns scoring to keep Hood in what was a tightly contested game. Quarles and Stanford also contributed as they helped the Blazers tie the game up 47-47. With 19 seconds left, Sam Blaylock made a three-pointer to give the Seahawks the lead that they never gave back.
