Telangana High Court gives State government three weeks to decide on land to BRS-Telangana Today

The High Court has granted three weeks to the State government and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to respond to a petition challenging the allotment of government land to the political party.

Hyderabad: A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court, led by Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao, has granted three weeks to the State government and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to respond to a petition challenging the allotment of government land to the political party.

The case centres around two controversial government orders. The first, GO No. 167 issued on August 16, 2018, enabled government land to be allotted at a nominal rate of Rs100 per square yard. The second, GO No. 47, issued on May 11, 2022, granted 4935 square yards of government land at NBT Nagar, Banjara Hills, to the BRS for the construction of its district office. The petitioner challenged that the same would amount to discrimination. The bench adjourned the case by three weeks.

High Court asks police to allow RTC JAC protest

Hyderabad: Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed the State police to allow the TSRTC Joint Action Committee (JAC) to hold their protest meeting at Bus Bhavan, near RTC X Road. The court’s intervention came after the employees’ union approached the court, alleging that their repeated requests for permission to hold the meeting since November had been denied. The TSRTC JAC had sought permission to hold a gathering to voice their grievances, but faced consistent refusals from the authorities. Justice Reddy expressed surprise at the police’s stance, questioning how a trade union could be prevented from organizing a protest.

“If a trade union doesn’t go on strike, then who will?” the judge remarked.In a lighter moment during the proceedings, government pleader Mahesh Raje said police would be busy managing large crowds expected at RTC X Road for the release of ‘Pushpa 2 The Rule’ movie. However, Justice Reddy clarified that the meeting would be restricted to no more than 300 people. He also stipulated that no provocative statements should be made during the protest. The judge emphasized that the police would be authorized to take action if the gathering led to any law and order issues.

Patnam’s petition dismissed

Hyderabad: Justice K Lakshman of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday dismissed the petition filed by Patnam Narendar Reddy, former Kondangal MLA from BRS party. The contention of the Petitioner was that he was illegally arrested from KBR park during walking without following the arrest procedure. The judicial remand order of the Judicial Magistrate of First Class at Kodangal was under challenge before the court. The detailed order of the court is awaited.
