Women’s basketball felled by Eagles

ST. DAVID’S, Pa. – A slow day at the office for the Hood College women’s basketball team ended up being their downfall in a 50-47 loss to Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth foe Eastern University.
Inside the Box Score
Aliyah Taylor (Randallstown, Md./Pikesville High School) scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Kourtney Johnson (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch High School) tallied seven points and two blocks.
How it Happened
Hood started hot, winning the tipoff to Johnson who immediately drove through the paint for a layup just five seconds into the game. Although Eastern had a two-point lead halfway through the quarter, another Johnson layup sparked an 8-2 run to end the quarter ahead 13-9.
The Eagles came back hard in the second, tying things at 17 with less than four minutes left before closing out the half with an 11-6 run to put the Blazers in a 28-24 deficit at halftime.
It looked like Eastern was going to try to run away with it when it started off the scoring 13 seconds into the third quarter, but a 14-2 run from Hood flipped the script and gave the visiting Blazers a 38-32 lead with two minutes left. The Eagles would not go down easily though, quickly scoring twice to give Hood just a 38-37 advantage with one quarter left.
No one was able to get too much of a hold in the final frame, with both squads exchanging the lead more than seven minutes into the quarter, but an Eastern three-pointer put the home team ahead 48-46 with less than two minutes to play. Unfortunately, untimely turnovers forced Hood to foul for possession, and the Blazers could not get enough shots to fall to tie the game before the clock ran out with a 50-47 loss on the board.
For the Opponent
Jeriyah Johnson led the Eagles with 17 points and seven assists.
Stephanie White ended the evening with eight rebounds.
