Adilabad: A tribal woman received a rude shock on Saturday when officials of a Telangana Grameena Bank allegedly deducted Rs 60,000 from the financial aid she was given for her daughter’s marriage under the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme. The officials reportedly deducted the amount towards the interest of a crop loan she had taken in Sirikonda mandal centre.

According to locals, Pendur Sombai from Laxmipur (B) village was shocked when the bank officials deducted Rs 60,000 to pay for the interest accrued on her crop loan. She was forced to return home with the remaining Rs 40,000. She left the bank with tears rolling down. This was after Sombai deposited a cheque for Rs 1,00,116, sanctioned to her by the State government, for performing the marriage of her daughter under the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme recently.

She had availed a crop loan of Rs 1.60 lakh in 2022. It was learnt that she was made to pay the interest after being persuaded by a local leader. Bank officials were unavailable for comments.
