Over 18.8 lakh EVs availed FAME incentives



Chennai: Around 18.8 lakh electric vehicles have availed FAME incentives since 2015. The government has provided sanctions to set up over 11,500 charging stations.

The Phase I of the ‘Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric (&Hybrid) Vehicles in India’ (FAME India) was implemented from April, 2015 to March, 2019 with an outlay of Rs 895 crore. In the first phase, the scheme supported 2,55,305 vehicles. Of this, 1.51 lakh were two-wheelers and over 1 lakh were four-wheelers, the government informed Lok Sabha.

The second phase of FAME India scheme was implemented for a period of 5 years from April, 2019 till March, 2024 with an outlay of Rs 11,500 crore. In the phase, the incentives were provided to 16,26,272 vehicles. Of this, 14.31 lakh were two-wheelers and 1.64 lakh were three-wheelers. The number of four-wheelers were down to 22,665 in the second phase.

Both phases of the FAME India scheme have supported the creation of charging infrastructure. Under Phase I, approximately 520 charging stations were sanctioned with an amount Rs 43 crore. Under Phase II, a total of 10,985 charging stations are to be installed under the scheme with an outlay of Rs 912.5 crore.

Out of these, 10,585 are being set up by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and remaining 400 are being set up by other entities. As on January 31, 2025, the OMCs have installed 4,523 charging stations.
