NMMC Appoints Zonal Coordinators To Ensure Use Of Treated Water In Construction

To ensure the proper implementation of using tertiary treated water for construction activities, zonal coordinators have been appointed in various nodes of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).

These officers will oversee and facilitate the supply of treated wastewater from NMMC’s sewage treatment plants for non-drinking purposes, particularly for construction projects.

Currently, redevelopment projects for dangerous buildings developed by CIDCO, along with other private land developments, are progressing in the NMMC area. ” It has been observed that a significant amount of potable water is being used for these activities. To ensure that only treated water is used zonal coordinators are now formed,” said an official.

Considering this issue,, it has been made mandatory for developers to use tertiary treated water for approved development projects wherever necessary. In this regard, NMMC issued a circular on wednesday ” this decision was taken to reduce the burden on potable water resources which are under strain due to uncertain rainfall pattern,” said the officia.

This directive aims to prevent the wastage of drinking water, ensuring that only treated wastewater is used for construction. The zonal coordinators will be responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance with this policy across different areas of Navi Mumbai.
