Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh registered its first casualty due to Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) when a 45-year-old woman succumbed to the autoimmune disorder in the Guntur Government General Hospital on Sunday.
According to reports, the deceased, Kamalamma, a native of Prakasam district, was suffering from high fever and was paralysed. As her condition deteriorated, her family members rushed her to the Guntur government hospital, where she was put on ventilator. She died while undergoing treatment.
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a rare neurological disorder that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system. It can cause weakness, tingling, numbness, and sometimes paralysis.
