■ Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong calls for do-or-die mindset to overcome crisis

SEOUL — Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-yong has urged executives to adopt a “do-or-die” mindset to navigate the intense challenges posed by the new era driven by artificial intelligence (AI), industry sources said Monday.

His call was made in a video message delivered to some 2,000 executives of the company’s affiliates undergoing education seminars since last month, according to the sources.

SEOUL — North Korea on Monday denounced the top diplomats of the Group of Seven (G7) countries’ joint call for Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear weapons, threatening to strengthen its nuclear forces both in “quality and quantity.”

After a meeting in La Malbaie, Canada, the foreign ministers of the G7 advanced nations issued a joint statement Friday that calls for North Korea to give up its nuclear and ballistic missile programs and condemns its military aid to support Russia’s war in Ukraine.

■ Approval rating for main opposition party rises to 44.3 pct ahead of Yoon’s impeachment ruling

SEOUL — The approval rating for the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) rose to 44.3 percent, a poll showed Monday, exceeding support for the ruling party by more than the margin of error.

According to the survey conducted by Realmeter on 1,510 adults aged over 18 last week, support for the DP gained 3.3 percentage points from the previous week, while the approval rating for the ruling People Power Party fell 3.7 percentage points to 39 percent.
