■ Gov’t to revert med school quota to pre-increase level of 3,058
SEOUL — The government has decided to return the nation’s medical school enrollment quota for 2026 to the pre-increase level of 3,058 two years ago and will officially announce the decision later this week, informed officials said Wednesday.
Education Minister Lee Ju-ho plans to hold a news conference at the Seoul Government Complex Thursday afternoon to announce the number of medical school admissions for 2026, they said, adding the quota will be reverted to 3,058, which is the same as the year 2024 and before.

■ Acting president says S. Korea, U.S. seeking ‘win-win’ solution for tariffs
SEOUL — Acting President Han Duck-soo said Wednesday that South Korea and the United States are working to find a “win-win” solution to the issue of U.S. “reciprocal” tariffs on imports from South Korea.
Han made the remark during a breakfast meeting with Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, who was in South Korea with a trade delegation, according to Han’s office.

■ PPP shortlists 8 hopefuls for 1st round of presidential primary
SEOUL — The People Power Party (PPP) said Wednesday it has selected eight presidential aspirants to advance to the first round of its primary to pick a candidate for the June 3 presidential election.
The eight hopefuls include former Labor Minister Kim Moon-soo, former PPP leader Han Dong-hoon, former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, PPP lawmakers Na Kyung-won and Ahn Cheol-soo, Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok, North Gyeongsang Gov. Lee Cheol-woo and former lawmaker Yang Hyang-ja. They were chosen among 11 registered applicants.

■ Hyundai Steel obtains U.S. certification for nuclear reactor parts
SEOUL — Hyundai Steel Co., South Korea’s second-biggest steelmaker, said Wednesday it has become the first South Korean steelmaker to obtain U.S. quality certification for its products used in nuclear reactors, paving the way into the nuclear reactor market in the United States and elsewhere.
Hyundai Steel has received the quality system certificates for nuclear material organization (QSC) for its steel products from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the company said in a press release.

SEOUL — South Korean chipmakers will likely face only limited impact from the new U.S. restrictions on exports of Nvidia Corp.’s H20 artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators to China, experts here said Wednesday.
Nvidia said it has been notified by U.S. authorities that the company now requires a license to export its H20 chips to China for the indefinite future.
