The DP World Tour has announced the official launch of a new tournament scheduled for October 16-19 in India. The schedule for the Back 9, the second phase after the "Global Swings", which brings together the most important end-of-season tournaments, is now complete. The European Tour has just announced the official launch of the DP World India Championship. This new $4 million tournament will be held from October 16-19 at the Delhi Golf Club. It is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).
The addition of the DP World India Championship to the 2025 calendar underscores India's growing influence as a destination for elite golf and a strategic market for DP World. This announcement also follows the success of the 2025 Hero Indian Open, won by Spain's Eugenio Chacarra, and further strengthens the tour's momentum in the region. The tournament also marks the Tour's return to the Delhi Golf Club for the first time since 2016. Originally created in the 1930s, the Lodhi Championship Course hosted the inaugural Indian Open in 1964 and was redesigned in 1977 by five-time Open winner Peter Thomson, before further improvements by Gary Player Design in 2019.
The DP World India Championship slots into the schedule just after the Spanish Open ($3.25 million prize pool) and before the Genesis Championship (October 23-26, $4 million prize pool), which marks the end of the regular season before the two playoff tournaments to be held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai between November 6 and 16, 2025.
The rules of golf are relatively complicated compared to other sports because they are played outdoors, close to nature and animals. Respecting the rules is a basic element in the game of golf, which, almost always based on self-control and the free conscience of the players, often sees distorted results, sometimes consciously, but often unconsciously or through carelessness, due to the non-observance by many players of the rules of the game. In addition to the rules, golf adheres to a code of conduct, known as etiquette, which generally means playing the game with due respect for the golf course and other players. Etiquette is an essential component of this sport.
