It’s an absolutely unbelievable box office performance for Mastiii 4. The film, fourth in the Masti franchise, was expected to do some kind of business at least. Even though adult comedy genre is practically dead not just in Bollywood but even Hollywood, it was a surprise in itself that the film was actually greenlit. With the OG trio of Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani returning and the production values being decent to good, it seemed like, at least, Rs. 30-40 crores would come in.
Even this would have been very less, especially considering the fact that Grand Masti had stunned one and all by entering the Rs. 100 Crore Club. However, it would have been fair, at least, given how films are currently doing at theatres. Also, if at all there would have been some sort of consolation, the business would have been better than Great Grand Masti, which was as it is a disaster at Rs. 13.59 crores, partially also impacted due to piracy leak prior to release.
However, in case of Mastiii 4, the unthinkable has happened. The collections have been even lesser than Great Grand Masti with the first week collections being merely Rs. 11.50 crores. That’s disastrous as well and now in the second week, the film is playing at just a show each at select screens. All of this means that at best Rs. 1-2 crore more would be collected and that would be all for the film. The lifetime collections would be the least ever, which means in all likelihood it’s curtains for Masti unless there is some brainwave again a few years down the line.
