Neha Dhupia discusses therapy, stigma and coping patterns ahead of Perfect Family release: “We suppress, we adjust, we stay silent”

Neha Dhupia steps into the role of therapist Megha in Perfect Family, the upcoming series backed by Pankaj Tripathi in his debut as a producer. The show, releasing on 27 November on the Jar Series YouTube channel, brings together a strong ensemble cast including Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa, Girija Oak, and Gulshan Devaiah.

In her character promo, Dhupia highlights the central idea the series aims to address — the ways people cope with emotional strain, and the fine line between healthy and harmful patterns. For her, the theme resonated immediately. “There are two types of coping mechanisms — good ones and bad ones,” she explained, noting how everyday routines like running or listening to music can act as positive outlets. But she also points to characters Niti and Vishnu in the show, who rely on habits that slowly turn damaging. That, she says, is the moment people need support the most. “Before you depend on an unhealthy coping mechanism, why not seek help? You need that one person who isn’t biased and can tell you, ‘This isn’t good for you.’”

Dhupia shared that the timing of the script aligned closely with what she was observing around her. The conversation around therapy, though more visible now, still carries hesitation and stigma in many homes. “Some stories act like a diving board before you jump into the deep end,” she said. “Therapy works the same way. Understanding you need it is one step, but asking someone else to consider it is even harder.”

She added that Perfect Family reflects the quiet pressures people carry, often without realising how long they’ve been holding back. “If a daughter says she needs therapy, she’s questioned for it. But the show reminds us that everyone has layers — you, me, all of us. We suppress, we adjust, we stay silent. That’s conditioning.”

The team behind the series includes creator Palak Bambri and director Sachin Pathak, with Ajay Rai producing under Jar Pictures alongside Mohit Chhabra and Pankaj Tripathi.
