Srinagar- Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday carried out inspections of madrassas and mosques across Srinagar as part of an intensified crackdown on individuals and networks suspected of aiding terrorist organisations. The drive aims to dismantle the terror support ecosystem and strengthen de radicalisation efforts in the Valley.
Police raids have increased following the November 10 blast in a car near the Red Fort in Delhi and the subsequent busting of a “white collar” terror module. Two religious preachers, Molvi Irfan from Shopian and Molvi Ishtiaq from Haryana’s Mewat, have already been arrested in connection with the case.
A police spokesman said teams inspected madrassas and masjids across all zones of Srinagar. Search teams, accompanied by executive magistrates and independent witnesses, examined digital devices, documents and other material to trace any terror linked or radical activities prejudicial to national security.
The spokesman said the checks are part of a continued effort to prevent any conspiratorial or unlawful acts aimed at disturbing peace and public order. All searches were carried out in accordance with legal procedures to ensure transparency and accountability.
Police said such operations will continue wherever credible inputs indicate the presence of individuals or material connected to terror or radical activity.
Raids in Kashmir Over JeI Links
Police on Thursday also carried out raids at multiple locations across Kashmir as part of an ongoing crackdown on the banned Jamaat e Islami. Officials said searches were conducted in Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam, Kulgam, and Kupwara.
The raids targeted residential premises and other locations linked to members and associates of the outfit. Officials said the action followed credible inputs suggesting that some individuals connected to Jamaat e Islami were involved in activities deemed anti national.
Electronic devices, documents, and literature were seized from several houses. Officials said all recovered material has been taken for detailed examination.
In Kupwara, police also searched the Jamia Islamia Institute in Waripora, Handwara, after receiving information about suspected unlawful activities and possible links with the banned organisation.
Officials said the drive is part of wider efforts to dismantle support structures linked to the group in the valley.
