Srinagar: In a pre-dawn security sweep, Srinagar Police, along with personnel of the 132 Battalion CRPF and the Mahila Company of the 213 Battalion CRPF, conducted a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the bustling Lalchowk area on Friday, carrying out surprise checks across hotels and lodging facilities.
According to officials, the operation was launched following intelligence inputs suggesting possible attempts by anti-national elements to exploit accommodation facilities for unlawful activities. The joint teams inspected multiple hotels, guest houses, and other establishments to verify the credentials of guests and staff and scrutinize records maintained by management.
Officers said the checks were carried out systematically to ensure no unauthorised or suspicious individuals were residing in the area. A dedicated women’s contingent was deployed to search and verify female guests, ensuring thorough and sensitive handling of the process.
A senior police officer told Kashmir News Trust that the operation formed part of a broader preventive security strategy aimed at maintaining public safety in Srinagar’s busiest commercial hub. He said similar surprise inspections would continue across other city localities to ensure a secure environment for residents and visitors.
Police have also issued an advisory to hotel owners and managers, urging them to strictly adhere to guest verification guidelines and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
The operation concluded peacefully, with no untoward incidents reported.~KNT
