“I don’t know firsthand of any gay players past or present,” he told Rolling Stone. “That being said, I do think I must have had a gay closeted teammate at some point in my career.”

He also notes that perhaps “Heated Rivalry’s success should open the door for the first gay NHL player, if there is one.”

If you didn’t know, while not part of the LGBTQ+ community himself, Sean has been a longtime supporter and even appeared in a 2011 Human Rights Campaign video to advocate for same-sex marriage.

As for the show itself, Sean says the hockey is horrible, but he is enjoying it even if he has to skip the many sex scenes.

“I love Heated Rivalry,” he shared. “It’s the worst hockey show ever made, but the most incredible gay hockey show ever made. Sometimes I look away from the TV, it’s pretty graphic.”

If you didn’t know, earlier this year, Sean also dropped a hockey romance book called “Summer Skate,” which he co-authored with Leslie Cohen. If you need a new hockey romance to read, you can get your copy on Amazon now!
