President Droupadi Murmu’s landmark address to open Odisha Assembly winter session tomorrow



The Winter Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly is set to begin tomorrow, marking a historic moment for the state’s legislative history.

For the first time ever, President Droupadi Murmu will address the Assembly, making this session particularly significant for Odisha.

A Landmark Moment for the House

No sitting President has previously addressed the Odisha Assembly, making President Murmu’s participation a rare and prestigious event. Her speech is expected to outline key developmental priorities, governance goals, and Odisha’s cultural identity. Extensive preparations have been carried out to ensure a smooth ceremony.

A Sentimental Return to Chamber No. 11

After her address, President Murmu will visit Chamber No. 11—her former office during her tenure as Transport Minister from 2000 to 2004. The chamber has been freshly decorated, evoking memories of her early political journey.
According to reports, both the Assembly premises and the historic Chamber No. 11 have been given a fresh makeover. Special security arrangements, seating protocols, and ceremonial practices have been put in place ahead of her visit.

All-Party Meeting Ahead of the Session

Ahead of the session, Speaker Surama Padhy convened an all-party meeting on Wednesday. She urged all members to ensure smooth, disciplined proceedings and uphold democratic values. 

Key leaders, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Government Chief Whip Saroj Pradhan, Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik, and Congress Legislature Party Leader Ramchandra Kadam attended the meeting.

Traffic Restrictions in Bhubaneswar

In view of heightened security, the Commissionerate Police has announced traffic restrictions in Bhubaneswar during the 5th Session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly, scheduled from November 27 to December 31, 2025. Several key routes leading to the Assembly will remain closed or diverted under the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003. The measures aim to ensure smooth movement and maintain security around the Assembly premises.
