■ (LEAD) Yoon to address election defeat Tuesday

SEOUL — President Yoon Suk Yeol will give his first public remarks about his plans after last week’s parliamentary election defeat during a Cabinet meeting this week, a presidential official said Monday.

Yoon will use his opening remarks during Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting to speak about how he plans to overhaul state affairs and cooperate with the incoming National Assembly, the official said. The remarks will be broadcast live.

■ (2nd LD) Trainee doctors set to file complaint against top health officials for alleged abuse of power

SEOUL — More than 1,300 trainee doctors were set to file a complaint against Health Minister Cho Kyoo-hong and Second Vice Health Minister Park Min-soo for alleged abuse of power, junior doctors said Monday, as their mass walkout has disrupted public health services for nearly eight weeks.

A total of 1,360 trainee doctors will ask the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials to investigate Cho and Park, accusing them of abusing power and interfering with the exercise of their rights, according to Jung Guen-young, a former representative of junior doctors at Cha University Bundang Medical Center.

SEOUL — The top U.S. envoy to the United Nations met with Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul in Seoul on Monday for discussions that have likely centered on exploring alternatives after Russia’s veto on renewing the U.N. expert panel monitoring sanctions on North Korea.

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s meeting with Cho took place as part of her four-day visit to South Korea, during which she is also expected to meet with senior government officials in Seoul to discuss cooperation in the U.N. Security Council.

■ S. Korea issues special travel advisory for Iran amid escalating Mideast tensions

SEOUL — South Korea on Monday issued a special travel advisory for parts of Iran, the foreign ministry said, amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following Tehran’s attack on Israel.

The ministry said it has decided to maintain the Level 3 travel advisory in the following areas: the Turkey-Iraq border region, the Sistan and Baluchestan province, as well as the three provinces of Khuzestan, Bushehr and Hormozgan along the Persian Gulf.

■ Vice FM to visit Kenya, Mauritius, UAE this week

SEOUL — First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun will visit Kenya and Mauritius this week as a special presidential envoy for an upcoming summit with African nations set for later this year, the foreign ministry said Monday.

Kim will make a four-day trip to the two African countries starting Monday through Thursday, before flying to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday, the ministry said in a release.
